The Far West Academy Lone Star program is looking for talented athletes in the local government areas of Bogan, Bourke, Brewarrina, Broken Hill, Central Darling, Cobar, Coonamble, Gilgandra, Lachlan (Tottenham and Lake Cargelligo), Narromine (Trangie) Walgett, Warren and Warrumbungle (Coonabarabran). If you compete at a regional, state or national level in your sport you may be eligible to apply.
What is the Lone Star Program?
It is a scholarship program that provides financial assistance and support to talented young athletes in the Far West region to enhance their opportunity of competing at a higher level. It also provides education and support services such as personal development, nutrition and sports psychology.
Who can apply?
Athletes aged between 13 and 18 years of age in 2017 (i.e. born between 1999 – 2004) living or attending school in the local government areas of Bogan, Bourke, Brewarrina, Broken Hill, Central Darling, Cobar, Coonamble, Gilgandra, Lachlan (Tottenham and Lake Cargelligo), Narromine (Trangie) Walgett, Warren and Warrumbungle (Coonabarabran). Athletes must compete in a sport recognised by the Australian Sports Commission.
Scholarships will not be offered to athletes playing rugby league, netball or tennis as the Academy provides squad programs in these sports.
What are the benefits?
