Minister for Citizenship and Communities and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Victor Dominello MP is encouraging young people from Aboriginal and culturally diverse backgrounds to apply to join the 2012 NSW Youth Advisory Council.
Mr Dominello said it is important that young people from all sectors of the community are represented on the Council.
“The Youth Advisory Council is one of the most effective ways for young people to be involved in Government decision making,” said Mr Dominello, who also has Ministerial responsibility for youth in NSW.
“The Council is made up of 12 young people aged between 12 and 24 years who offer a direct avenue of communication between young people and the NSW Government.
“Their unique insights, views and advice to Government assist in the development of youth related policies and programs for regional and metropolitan areas of NSW.
“The group meets regularly throughout the year to discuss a range of relevant topics, as well as monitoring and evaluating policy and legislation which affects young people.”
Mr Dominello said advertisements inviting young people to apply for the 2012 NSW Youth Advisory Council have been placed in a range of metropolitan, regional and ethnic newspapers.
“Council members come from a diversity of geographical and cultural backgrounds and array of life experiences, which are broadly representative of the diversity of young people in NSW,” Mr Dominello said.
“In determining Council membership, we seek a balance of people from metropolitan, regional and rural areas; young men and women; young Aboriginal people; young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds; and people with experience in a range of youth and community organisations.
“The Youth Advisory Council will make an important and valuable contribution to the NSW Government’s work and the way we deliver services for young people in NSW.”
Information and application forms for membership of the Youth Advisory Council are available on the NSW Government Youth website www.youth.nsw.gov.au/yac or from the Executive Officer, Youth Advisory Council, email@example.com or (02) 9995 0532.
Closing date for submission of applications 5.00pm, Monday 24 October 2011.
