The NSW Department of Family and Community Services and Carers NSW are partners in the Young Carer App project, which is one of 16 carer projects in the NSW Carers Strategy 2014-2019.
Carers provide unpaid regular support and assistance to those who need it because of disability, chronic illness, mental illness, drug and alcohol dependency, frail age or dementia.
On 16 October 2014 the Minister for Finance and Services launched the next round of the Apps4NSW competition, featuring 3 challenges and amongst them the young carer app challenge!
The app should incorporate a young carer-designed, self assessment tool that will enable young people with caring responsibilities to voluntarily and anonymously recognise that they are young carers and then encourage them to connect to the available support that is right for them.
