Over 120 high school students, aged 12 to 18 years from 17 schools throughout the Riverina, were inspired to take charge through a youth leadership forum held on 23 August, 2013.
NSW Government’s Youth Opportunities funded the Take Charge Leadership Forum. Hosted by the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (REROC), the Forum included hands-on workshops on youth leadership and self-esteem.
In the evening, over 100 young people aged 18 to 25 years attended the Take Charge Leadership Dinner featuring Adam Marshall MP and Kids2Kids founder Dominic Mortimer. Adam was elected to Gunnadah Council, became mayor at 23 before being elected in 2013 as the Member for the Northern Tablelands.Dominic Mortimer is 15 years old and is the founder of the Kids2Kids charity, which he started at age 12 to help children living in Tanzania and Kenya. The young people mixed with local councils and representatives from REROC and celebrated the contribution of young people in their communities.
The Take Charge Youth Leadership event will be held again in 2014.
